I've never really felt the need for heated blades either, but I do wonder if they might be more useful for folks who regularly park their cars outside overnight in really harsh climates? I mean, scraping ice off your windshield at 6am in a snowstorm definitely isn't fun...haha.

But yeah, good washer fluid makes a huge difference. I used to just buy whatever was cheapest at the gas station until one winter morning when my windshield turned into a blurry mess halfway to work—lesson learned. Now I always go for the stuff rated to -30°C or lower, and it's honestly night and day.

Also, has anyone else noticed that some of those winter-specific blades seem to wear out faster than regular ones? Maybe it's just me or the brands I've tried, but it feels like after one tough season they're already streaking or squeaking. I'm curious if pricier "premium" blades actually last longer or if it's just clever marketing.

One more thing—does anyone carry a backup scraper or brush in their EV? I know some people don't bother since they can preheat remotely, but I've had my share of app glitches and surprise dead batteries. Nothing worse than being stuck with a frozen windshield and no way to clear it. Learned that one the hard way too...

I keep a backup scraper in mine for sure—apps glitch, tech fails, and honestly, relying solely on preheating feels risky. Has anyone tried those windshield covers overnight? Seems like they'd save a ton of hassle, but I'm skeptical if they're practical in heavy snow or wind...

I've thought about those windshield covers too, but honestly, I'm still on the fence. A buddy of mine swears by his—claims it saves him tons of scraping time in the morning—but he lives somewhere pretty mild. I can't help but wonder how they'd hold up when the snow gets heavy or the wind picks up overnight. Last thing I'd want is to wake up and find my windshield cover halfway down the street, haha.

I did see one neighbor using one last winter, and it seemed to work okay for lighter snowfalls. But after a big storm, I noticed he was out there wrestling with it, trying to peel off a thick layer of ice and snow that had frozen onto the fabric. Looked like more trouble than just scraping would have been in the first place.

Personally, I keep an old-school scraper handy too—tech is great until it's not. Learned that lesson the hard way when my app glitched out and left me standing in freezing temps waiting for preheat that never came. Not fun.

Still, if someone has found a windshield cover that's sturdy enough for real winter weather, I'd be open to giving it a shot. Anything to avoid freezing my fingers off at 7 AM...

Tried one of those windshield covers last winter—seemed like a good idea at first. Worked fine for lighter snow, but after one heavy storm, it froze solid to my windshield. Took forever to peel it off without damaging anything. Honestly, felt like more hassle than just scraping.

Now I just stick with a sturdy scraper and keep a spare pair of gloves in the car. Learned my lesson after getting caught out once with numb fingers trying to scrape ice off at dawn. Tech and gadgets are nice, but sometimes the simplest solutions are still the best bet...especially when winter weather gets unpredictable.

True, simple usually does the trick, but honestly, I've had good luck with windshield covers. Maybe it depends on the brand? Mine never froze solid—just shook it off and drove away. Could be worth another shot with a different one...
