That's a smart move, though definitely not the most comfortable! I've found myself doing something similar on longer trips.

I've never tried preconditioning myself, but now I'm curious if it really makes a noticeable difference. Last winter, I got stuck in traffic during a snowstorm and had to do the same thing—turned off the seat warmer and even dimmed the dashboard lights to save power. Definitely not fun, haha. Does preconditioning actually help enough to justify the extra electricity used beforehand? Seems counterintuitive to me, but maybe I'm missing something...

I've tried preconditioning a few times, and honestly, it does help—especially in really cold weather. But yeah, it feels weird using extra juice upfront when you're already worried about range.

Been there... not my idea of a cozy road trip, haha. Curious if anyone's noticed a big difference between different EV models on this?

I've wondered about this too. My buddy has a Model 3, and he swears preconditioning barely dents his range, even in freezing temps. Meanwhile, my Kona seems to lose a noticeable chunk whenever I try it. Maybe it's battery tech differences or just software efficiency? Either way, dimming dashboard lights sounds like peak EV anxiety mode... been guilty of that myself, haha.

Haha, dimming dashboard lights is definitely peak EV anxiety—I’ve totally done that too. My Leaf loses range pretty noticeably with preconditioning, especially in winter. Maybe Tesla’s software magic is just next-level... or my car’s just dramatic. Probably both.

Glad I'm not alone there... I've caught myself turning off everything from heated seats to the radio just to squeeze out another mile or two. Speaking of preconditioning, my Bolt also takes a noticeable hit in winter. Makes me wonder, is it the software optimization difference or just battery chemistry? Last winter road trip had me nervously calculating every stop—definitely sharpened my mental math skills...
