Had a similar issue last year—hit a crater-sized pothole and bent two rims. My policy didn’t cover it either, just “wear and tear.” Ended up out $600. I’ve looked into those extra coverages, but the fine print always gets me. Feels like you’re paying for peace of mind more than anything else.

Honestly, the whole “wear and tear” loophole drives me nuts. It’s like, what else are roads for if not to ruin your rims? I get why people side-eye those extra coverages, but sometimes they do come through—especially if you drive in areas with potholes everywhere (Delaware isn’t exactly famous for smooth streets). Still, the exclusions can be wild. I always tell folks to dig into the specifics—sometimes a “road hazard” add-on is worth it, but only if it covers stuff like bent rims, not just flat tires. Otherwise, yeah, you’re mostly paying for a feeling rather than real protection.

Yeah, that’s the part that gets me. I’ve looked at a few of those “road hazard” options and half the time they only cover the tire itself, not the rim or alignment. Last winter I hit a pothole so deep it felt like I was off-roading—wrecked my rim and the insurance just shrugged because it was “wear and tear.” Ended up paying out of pocket.

I’m always trying to balance what’s actually useful vs. what’s just extra cost. Has anyone found a policy in Delaware that actually spells out what’s covered for stuff like this? Or is it all just vague language until you file a claim? I don’t mind paying a bit more if it means real coverage, but I hate feeling like I’m just tossing money away for nothing.

That’s brutal. Been there myself—cracked a 20” rim on my S-Class last year, and the “premium” coverage I had didn’t do squat for it. They love to sell you on peace of mind, but when it comes time to pay out, suddenly everything’s “maintenance” or “wear and tear.” Honestly, most of these policies are written to be as vague as possible. You’re not imagining it.

I get wanting real coverage, especially with what we pay for these cars. My advice? If you find a policy that actually spells out rim or alignment coverage in plain English, grab it. Otherwise, half the time you’re just paying extra for a fancy brochure. It’s frustrating, but you’re not alone in feeling like you’re tossing money away.

That’s the truth. I remember years back, I had a tire blowout from a nasty curb in Wilmington—thought my “comprehensive” plan would help. Nope, just a lot of fine print and finger-pointing. Now I read every line twice, but even then, it feels like a gamble. Delaware roads aren’t getting any smoother either...
