I ran into the same confusion after a fender bender last year. The shop replaced my bumper, and the adjuster mentioned “betterment” because the new one wasn’t faded like the old. Honestly, it felt a bit unfair—like you said, I just wanted my car back to normal, not upgraded. Delaware’s insurance quirks can be a headache. From what I’ve seen, even not-at-fault claims can sometimes nudge your premium up, which surprised me too. It’s definitely not as straightforward as I expected.

That “betterment” thing always trips me up. I get the logic, but it’s not like you asked for a shiny new bumper, right? Insurance in Delaware does seem to have its own set of weird rules. I’ve had my premium go up after a no-fault claim too—felt kind of backwards. Makes me wonder if shopping around every renewal is the only way to keep them honest...

Honestly, I don’t think shopping around fixes much. I’ve got a couple high-end cars and every company just finds new ways to hike the rates or nickel-and-dime you. “Betterment” is just another excuse for them to pay less. Even if you switch, they all share claim info anyway. At this point, I just budget for the nonsense—less hassle than arguing over every line item.

Yeah, I get that. I used to spend hours comparing quotes and reading the fine print, but after a while it just felt like a game I couldn’t win. Last time I switched, the “new customer” rate lasted one year, then shot up higher than my old policy. Maybe it’s just Delaware, but I’ve started focusing more on coverage than chasing the lowest price. Peace of mind’s worth something, even if it stings a bit.

Honestly, I don’t know if just accepting higher rates for “peace of mind” works for everyone. Why pay more just because these companies keep playing games? I get wanting good coverage, but it feels like giving up to stop shopping around. Have you ever tried calling them out on the price hikes? Sometimes they’ll actually drop it if you push back. Just seems weird to settle when they’re banking on people getting tired of fighting.
