Yeah, the “comprehensive” part always cracks me up. I had a cracked headlight once—insurance said it wasn’t covered because it wasn’t “catastrophic” enough. Meanwhile, my premiums keep climbing like I’m driving a Ferrari, not a ten-year-old Outback. Delaware insurance is wild.

Honestly, the rate hikes are baffling sometimes. The “comprehensive” label is a bit misleading—cracked headlights usually fall under it, but only if it’s from something like vandalism or a falling tree branch. Just regular wear and tear? Not so much. Delaware’s risk pool is small, so even minor claims can nudge everyone’s rates up. It’s not just you... the system’s kind of stacked against older cars too.

It’s wild how premium hikes seem to hit everyone, regardless of what you’re driving. I’ve got a newer model—definitely not a Ferrari, but not a beater either—and my rates have jumped just as much. Sometimes I wonder if the “luxury” tag is just an excuse for insurers to pad the numbers, even though I drive cautiously and park in a garage.

The thing about comprehensive coverage is spot on. I once had a side mirror clipped in a parking lot and figured it’d be covered—nope, apparently that’s “collision.” But if a raccoon had chewed on it, then maybe? The logic is hard to follow sometimes.

Delaware’s small pool really does make it tough. Even with a clean record, one claim can send your rates up for years. At this point, I’m seriously considering raising my deductible just to keep things manageable. Not ideal, but these days it feels like we’re all overpaying, no matter what we drive.

Raising the deductible is something I’m debating too, but it feels like a gamble. I just got my first policy and honestly, comparing quotes was a headache—some companies wanted double what others did for the same coverage. What helped me was making a spreadsheet to track each quote, deductible, and what’s actually covered (like, raccoons vs. collisions... who knew?). It’s not fun, but seeing it all side by side made it less overwhelming. Still feels like no matter what, you’re paying more than you should.

Spreadsheet is a smart move—wish I’d thought of that during my own insurance search. I totally get the “gamble” feeling with deductibles. It’s like, do I risk paying more out of pocket later, or just bite the bullet now? Honestly, you’re not alone in thinking it all feels overpriced. Delaware rates are wild sometimes. I ended up calling a couple agents directly and got better explanations than what I could find online. Not fun, but at least it helped me feel less lost in the weeds.
