I've been thinking about the defensive driving course thing—does anyone know if all insurers in Delaware honor that discount equally, or does it vary a lot between companies? I've heard mixed things from friends. Also, how much hassle is it really to switch insurers regularly? I'm pretty cautious about paperwork and stuff, and the idea of missing something important makes me nervous...

I did switch once after a minor fender-bender (not my fault, thankfully), and honestly, the savings weren't as impressive as I'd hoped. Maybe because of the accident record? Curious if others have had similar experiences. And speaking of hidden gems—anyone stumbled onto smaller local insurers that offer surprisingly good deals or service? Sometimes those smaller outfits can be real finds...

- Defensive driving discounts definitely vary—my insurer barely gave me enough to cover a pizza night, lol.
- Switching insurers isn't rocket science, but yeah, paperwork anxiety is real... double-check everything and breathe.
- Smaller local insurers can be awesome; mine actually answers the phone without 20 mins of elevator music.

Has anyone actually found a smaller insurer that's significantly cheaper, though? I mean, answering the phone quickly is great and all, but does it translate into real savings or just better customer service? I've always been skeptical about local insurers because I worry about their coverage limits or how they handle claims—anyone had experience with that?

Also, speaking of defensive driving discounts... is it worth retaking the course every few years to keep the discount going, or does it diminish over time? My current insurer barely knocked off enough for a tank of gas last time, so I'm wondering if it's even worth the hassle. Maybe switching insurers regularly is the real hack here, paperwork anxiety aside...

Haha, exactly my experience! Did the defensive driving thing twice, and honestly, the second time around felt more like punishment than savings. I mean, sure, it refreshes your memory on some rules, but the discount was barely enough to justify the boredom and stale coffee.

About smaller insurers, I gave one local company a shot a few years back. Prices were actually decent, but when I had a fender bender, the claims process was... let's just say "less than smooth." Took forever to get things sorted, and communication was spotty at best. Ended up back with one of the bigger guys—slightly pricier but less headache overall.

Switching insurers regularly might be the real hack, though. My neighbor swears by it—he's always bragging about his latest "deal," but then again, he also brags about his lawn, so who knows.

Defensive driving discounts can vary a lot by insurer—mine actually gave me a decent chunk off. Maybe it's worth shopping around every couple years instead of sticking with one company long-term? Saved me more than just gas money, anyway.
