- Been there with the paperwork panic—once spent an hour digging through a drawer for a service invoice from 2015.
- I started scanning everything after that, but yeah, still keep the originals just in case some adjuster wants to see “real” proof.
- One thing I learned: some insurers actually want photos of the car at different angles every year. Didn’t know that until they asked...
- Honestly, it’s wild how much documentation they expect. But hey, better safe than sorry when it comes to these beauties.

I hear you on the paperwork chaos—last year I found a faded receipt tucked inside an old glovebox manual, and I’m still not sure if it was for my car or my neighbor’s. The photo thing caught me off guard too; one company even wanted a shot of the odometer every renewal. Has anyone actually had to use all this documentation in a claim? I always wonder if they really check every scrap or just want us to sweat a little...

Honestly, I’ve always wondered if they actually comb through every single piece of paper or just want to see who’s organized enough to keep it all together. I haven’t had to file a claim on my vintage yet (knock on wood), but a friend did after a fender bender, and the adjuster asked for way less than he expected—just a couple photos and the last repair invoice. All that time he spent scanning receipts and tracking oil changes… probably overkill.

But then again, I’ve heard stories where the insurance folks get super picky, especially with older cars. Maybe it depends on the company or the adjuster? I keep everything in a folder just in case, but mostly because I’m paranoid about forgetting when I last changed the brake fluid. The odometer photo thing cracks me up—like, do they think we’re secretly racing these old cars around the track at night?

Anyway, I’d love to know if anyone’s actually been grilled for every scrap of paperwork. Sometimes I feel like they just want us to sweat a little, too.

I’ve had adjusters ask for the weirdest stuff—once they wanted a photo of my car’s VIN next to a newspaper (like some kind of ransom proof). But most of the time, it’s just a couple pics and maybe the last big repair bill. I keep a folder too, mostly because I can’t remember what I had for breakfast, let alone when I swapped out spark plugs. Honestly, I think half the paperwork is just for our own peace of mind... or paranoia.

That VIN with a newspaper thing is wild—never heard of that one before. I just snap a bunch of pics and hope for the best, honestly. My “system” is basically a shoebox full of receipts and random sticky notes. Has anyone actually had an adjuster care about the exact date of a repair, or do they just want proof you didn’t duct tape the bumper back on?
