- Gotta admit, the cap can feel restrictive, but for me it’s kind of a built-in excuse not to daily the old cars.
- Keeps the miles (and the wear) down, which helps with resale and maintenance headaches.
- The mental math thing is real, though—I’ve definitely skipped a few “just because” drives.
- On the flip side, my insurance dropped by almost half with the limit. That’s hard to ignore when you’ve got multiple classics in the garage.
- Guess it depends—if you’re truly spontaneous, maybe not worth it. But if you mostly drive to shows or weekend cruises, the savings can be pretty sweet.

Mileage caps are a weird beast. I remember a client who swore he’d never hit the limit, then got invited to a bunch of out-of-town shows one summer and ended up sweating every mile. The savings are real, but I’ve seen folks get burned by underestimating how much they’d actually want to drive. Personally, I’d rather pay a bit more and not have to think twice about taking the long way home... but if you’re disciplined, it’s hard to argue with those lower premiums.

I keep telling myself I’ll be “responsible” and stick to the mileage cap, but then I remember how easily I get talked into a random road trip or, you know, just driving around because the weather’s nice. The idea of saving money is tempting, but knowing my luck, I’d hit the cap halfway through summer and end up rationing miles like they’re slices of pizza at a party. Maybe worth it if you’re super disciplined... but I’m not betting on myself there.

Yeah, that mileage cap is a real buzzkill if you actually like driving your car. I tried it once thinking I’d be “good” and keep the miles low, but then one long weekend and a couple of spontaneous detours later, I was basically doing math in my head every time I wanted to leave the garage. Honestly, unless you’re the type who just polishes your ride and takes it out to shows, it’s kind of a gamble. I’d rather pay a bit more and not have to stress every mile.

I totally get that—those mileage caps can really take the fun out of it if you’re the type who just wants to hit the open road now and then. I’ve seen folks try to “game” the system by keeping meticulous logs, but honestly, it turns into a weird math class where your car is the homework. If you’re actually using your classic for more than just Sunday coffee runs, paying a little extra for peace of mind makes sense. Otherwise, you’re basically driving with a calculator in your head... not exactly the vibe most people want.
