- That’s actually reassuring to hear it’s just a premium bump and not something worse.
- I’m about to get my first classic policy and the mileage cap is the one thing making me hesitate.
- Does anyone actually get asked for proof of mileage, or is it more of an honor system?
- I’m not sure I trust myself to keep track either... I’d probably forget after a month.
- Is there a way to increase the cap mid-year if you realize you’re going over?

I’ve had classic policies for a few years now and honestly, I’ve never been asked for proof unless I made a claim. It’s mostly the honor system, but I do snap a pic of my odometer at renewal just in case. As for upping the cap mid-year, most companies will let you pay a bit more if you call them before you go over. Not ideal, but better than risking a denied claim. I hear you on forgetting to track—sticky note on the dash helps me remember.

Same here—never been asked unless there’s a claim. Honestly, I just keep a running note on my phone with mileage updates. Not fancy, but it works. Paying extra mid-year stings, but beats getting burned if something happens.

Honestly, I’m with you on the extra documentation. I’m new to this and kinda paranoid about missing something if there’s a claim. Snapping a quick pic or jotting it down seems like cheap insurance for the insurance… better safe than sorry, right?

Honestly, you nailed it with “cheap insurance for the insurance.” I’ve seen folks try to remember details months after an incident, and let’s just say, memory isn’t always our best friend. A quick photo or note can save a ton of back-and-forth later.

On the mileage cap thing—classic car policies are a bit quirky. The cap can feel restrictive, but it’s usually what keeps premiums reasonable for these types of vehicles. If you’re not driving your classic daily, the cap probably won’t be a big deal. But if you’re tempted to take it out for every sunny day, it’s worth tracking your miles. Some people keep a little logbook in the glovebox—old school, but it works.

And yeah, the paranoia about missing something is real. But over-documenting is rarely a problem. Under-documenting? That’s where claims get messy.
