Classic car insurance and the annual mileage cap - worth it?

That “bonus miles” idea would make a lot of sense, especially for an occasional long trip. One detail I’d want clarified before choosing a policy is whether the mileage cap is separate from the permitted use. Does the insurer distinguish pleasure miles from commuting, errands, or using the classic as backup transportation if the daily driver is in the garage?

I’m thinking of situations like a home renovation or repair, where the regular car is tied up and the classic suddenly becomes useful for several short supply runs. Even if the total mileage stays fairly low, that could still breach a policy’s usage restrictions. A slightly higher cap may not help if commuting or regular errands are excluded altogether, so I’d check both the mileage wording and the allowed-use section with the agent.
