Classic car insurance and the annual mileage cap—worth it?

Yeah, the mileage cap feels like a buzzkill, especially when you just want to take your car out for a random drive. I get the logic, but it does make things less fun. The GPS tracker’s a solid idea, though—my buddy had his classic stolen and never saw it again. Insurance really needs to catch up with how people actually use their cars these days.

I get what you mean about the mileage cap being a buzzkill, but honestly, I kind of see why it’s there. If people started using their classics as daily drivers, wouldn’t that just jack up the risk for the insurance companies? Then everyone’s premiums would go up, even for folks who only take their cars out on weekends.

About the GPS tracker—yeah, it’s helpful, but I’m not sure it’s a magic fix. Thieves can be pretty tech-savvy these days. I still think the real issue is finding a balance between protecting your car and actually enjoying it. Insurance rules feel stuck in the past, but if they loosened up too much, wouldn’t costs just skyrocket?

I get stuck on the same thing—like, if you’re paying for insurance, shouldn’t you be able to drive your car more? But then again, I guess if everyone started racking up miles, it’d mess with the whole “classic” vibe and the risk factor. Have you ever tried negotiating a higher cap? Wonder if some companies are flexible if you ask.

I actually tried pushing for a higher mileage cap once, but the agent just kind of laughed and said, “That’s not really how it works.” I get the whole “keep it classic” thing, but if I’m paying for insurance, I want to actually enjoy the car, not just stare at it in the garage. Maybe some companies are chill about it, but I haven’t found one yet. Honestly, feels like they expect us to treat these cars like museum pieces... which is a little frustrating.

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. It’s wild how strict some of these policies are—like, who buys a classic just to let it collect dust? I’ve heard Hagerty sometimes bumps the cap if you’ve got a good record, but yeah, most places aren’t super flexible. Frustrating for folks who actually want to drive their cars and not just polish them all weekend...
