Classic car insurance and the annual mileage cap - worth it?

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from - it’s frustrating how rigid these policies can be. I’ve pushed the limit a few times and it’s always in the back of my mind. Still, your point about calling the insurer is spot on. Sometimes they’ll work with you, even if it’s not advertised. It’s not perfect, but at least you’re not totally boxed in. The GPS tracking thing? That’s a bit much for me, too... I just want to enjoy the drive without feeling like I’m being watched.

Yeah, that GPS stuff makes me uneasy too. I get why they do it, but it feels like overkill, especially if you’re already careful about mileage. I’ve always wondered - if you accidentally go over the cap, do they actually check the tracker or just trust your word? I’m super cautious because I’ve had claims denied before (not fun). Is it really worth the stress for the savings? Sometimes I think paying a bit more for peace of mind is better, but maybe I’m just paranoid.

Honestly, I’ve had the same debate with myself. The savings look great on paper, but then you’re constantly watching the odometer and worrying about every little trip. I’ve heard some companies do check the tracker if there’s a claim, which feels a bit Big Brother-ish. For me, the extra cost is worth not having to stress if we want to take a spontaneous road trip or let the kids borrow the car. Peace of mind isn’t overrated.

I get where you’re coming from, but for me, the savings actually add up. I just keep a note of my miles and plan ahead a bit. Not that hard once you get used to it. The “peace of mind” is nice, but I’d rather have the cash in my pocket.

I’m new to this whole classic insurance thing, and honestly, the mileage cap is what’s tripping me up. I get that tracking miles isn’t rocket science, but what if you just want to take a random road trip or hit a few shows on a whim? Does anyone actually get penalized if they go over, or is it more of an honor system? Just trying to figure out if the hassle is worth the savings...
