Yeah, I’ve run into the same wall. Tried every combo—points, promo codes, even those “birthday” discounts. Usually just get a polite nope. Sometimes I wonder if there’s some ultra-rare glitch day where it all works, but I haven’t found it yet. Don’t feel bad, you’re definitely not alone in this.

I get the frustration, but honestly, I kind of get why they don’t let us stack everything. From their side, if we could use points and a coupon together, they’d probably lose money on half the sales. Not saying it’s great for us, but I guess it keeps prices from going up even more? I usually just pick whichever discount saves me the most and call it a win. Still wish there was a secret combo though...

If there is a secret combo, I want in—preferably before my next service bill hits. Honestly, I get the business logic, but it’s like buying a car that comes with heated seats... but you can’t use them if you turn on the A/C. Why not both? Does anyone remember a time when stacking discounts was actually possible? Or is that just one of those urban legends, like “dealer invoice pricing”?

I swear, I remember my parents using coupons and points together at the grocery store when I was a kid. Maybe my memory’s fuzzy, but it felt like you could stack stuff way more often back then. Now it’s all “one or the other.” Is this just a car thing, or are all loyalty programs getting stingier? I’d love to know if anyone’s actually pulled off a double dip lately...

Title: Why can’t I use my points AND a coupon at checkout?

- You’re not imagining it—stacking used to be way easier. I remember my mom would hand over a stack of clipped coupons, then swipe her rewards card, and nobody batted an eye. Now it’s like the system just shuts you down if you try both.
- From what I’ve seen, most grocery and car loyalty programs have tightened up their terms in the last decade or so. They say it’s to “simplify” things, but let’s be real, it’s about limiting how much we save.
- Car stuff is especially strict. Tried to use a $10 oil change coupon plus some points at the dealership last month—no dice. The cashier said “one promo per transaction.” Didn’t matter that the points were basically cash I’d already earned.
- Grocery stores are hit or miss. Some still let you stack manufacturer coupons with store points, but it’s rare and usually buried in the fine print. I did manage to double dip at Safeway about six months ago, but only because the cashier didn’t notice (or care).
- Digital systems are part of the problem too. The register just blocks anything that doesn’t fit their rules now, so even if a human wanted to help, they can’t always override it.

It’s frustrating for sure. Feels like they’re making us jump through more hoops for less reward every year. But you’re not alone—lots of folks remember when stacking was just part of smart shopping. If you ever do pull off a double dip these days, it feels like winning the lottery... even if it’s just a couple bucks off groceries or gas.
