Yeah, totally feel you on that “system won’t let you” moment—happens to me all the time at the grocery store. I think it’s because a lot of stores treat points like a form of payment, not a discount, so their registers block out coupon stacking to avoid double-dipping. It’s annoying, especially when the fine print isn’t clear. I’ve found some chains are stricter than others... Walgreens is way pickier than, say, Target. Guess it just comes down to how much patience you’ve got for the rules.

Yeah, I get what you mean about Walgreens being super strict. I’ve had the same thing happen at Kroger, too—tried to use a digital coupon and points in the same transaction, and the cashier just shrugged and said “system won’t let me.” It’s frustrating when you’re standing there with a line behind you and you feel like you’re trying to game the system, when really you’re just trying to save a few bucks.

Honestly, I don’t even bother arguing anymore. If it doesn’t work, I just pay and move on. Not worth the headache. But it does make me wonder—why do they even advertise all these “stack your savings” promos if half the time their own registers block it? Feels like they want us to jump through hoops just to use what we’ve earned.

I will say, Target’s been a little more flexible for me too. Their app is actually pretty clear about what can be combined, which helps. Walgreens is another story... their fine print is like reading legal documents. Who has time for that when you’ve got kids in the car and groceries melting in the trunk?

You’re not alone in this. It’s annoying, but I guess it’s just part of shopping these days. Sometimes I think they make it complicated on purpose so people give up using rewards altogether. Ever notice how many people just forget about their points? Maybe that’s what they’re banking on.

Anyway, hang in there. At least you tried—most folks don’t even bother with coupons or points anymore because of stuff like this.

It’s wild how complicated they make it. Last month I tried to use my points and a coupon at Walgreens for some allergy meds, thinking I’d get a decent deal. Nope—register froze up and the cashier just kind of sighed. With three kids in tow, I didn’t have the energy to argue. I swear these “rewards” programs are more work than they’re worth half the time. Target’s app is definitely clearer, I’ll give them that.

I’ve run into that too—sometimes it feels like you need a manual just to check out. I think Walgreens’ system only lets you stack certain offers, and even then it’s hit or miss. Ever tried their chat support? I got a half-answer once, but it was still confusing. Do you think stores make it complicated on purpose, or is it just bad tech?

I get what you’re saying, but I’m not totally convinced it’s all on purpose. Sometimes I think it’s just outdated tech and too many overlapping promos. I’ve found if you scan your coupons before using points, it sometimes works better... not always, but worth a shot.
