Has anyone actually had luck negotiating those tech-heavy repair costs, or is it just always sticker shock now?

Honestly, I’ve tried haggling with body shops after a minor scrape, but with all the sensors and cameras in bumpers now, they barely budged. It’s wild how fast costs add up. Makes me wonder if minimum coverage is even worth the risk anymore. Anyone else feel like the tech is making repairs way pricier than they should be?

Yeah, I hear you. Had a customer last month who tapped a parking pole—barely a scratch on the paint, but the backup sensor got knocked out. The bill was almost $1,500. He thought his liability-only policy would cover it... not so much. Tech's great till you get the estimate. Sometimes I miss the days when a bumper was just a bumper, ya know?

Totally get what you mean about missing the old-school bumpers. I had a similar situation where a tiny fender bender ended up costing way more than I expected—mostly because of all the sensors and cameras tucked in there now. Made me wonder, is it even worth having just the bare minimum insurance anymore? I keep thinking I’m saving money, but then one little mishap and I’m out way more than I thought. Does anyone actually feel safe with liability-only these days, or am I just paranoid?

Honestly, I’ve wondered the same thing. With all the tech packed into bumpers now, even a minor scrape can turn into a huge bill. Do you think comprehensive is actually worth it for older cars, or is that just overkill? I keep going back and forth...

I keep thinking about this too, especially since I’ve had a couple fender benders in the past. If you’re in a spot where you drive a lot or park on the street, does it make sense to risk going without comprehensive? Or is it just gambling with your wallet?
