Yeah, I tried one of those apps tooβmy old Mustang rattled so much it thought I was drag racing every time I hit a pothole. Cool idea, but I'll wait till they iron out the kinks...
"my old Mustang rattled so much it thought I was drag racing every time I hit a pothole."
Haha, that's exactly why I'm hesitant about those apps. My daily commute is full of potholes and rough patchesβpretty sure I'd get flagged constantly. Did you notice if it affected your rates much, or did you bail before it got to that point? Seems like a good concept, but I'm with you... better to wait until they smooth things out a bit.
Honestly, those apps aren't as sensitive as you might think. I've tested a couple out, and while they're not perfect, they can usually tell the difference between potholes and actual aggressive driving. Might be worth giving it a shot before writing it off entirely...
"they can usually tell the difference between potholes and actual aggressive driving."
Fair point, but from my experience handling claims, these apps aren't always as discerning as advertised. I've seen instances where sudden braking or quick lane changesβcompletely justified maneuversβget flagged unfairly. Not saying they're useless, just that relying solely on them might not give the full picture. Maybe pairing app data with traditional assessments would be a more balanced approach...
Yeah, that's been my experience too. Couple months back, I had to brake super abruptly because a kid darted into the street chasing a ball. Totally justified, right? But the app flagged it as aggressive braking and dinged my driving score. Like you said:
"Not saying they're useless, just that relying solely on them might not give the full picture."
Exactly. They're helpful, sure, but I'd never trust the tech alone without some human judgment thrown in...
