I've had similar concerns about telematics, especially since my daily commute involves a fair amount of city driving and tight parking spots. From what I've noticed, these apps usually distinguish pretty well between actual driving and parking maneuvers. I drive a larger luxury sedan, and trust me, parallel parking isn't always graceful... but it hasn't noticeably impacted my score. Seems like they're more focused on consistent driving habits rather than occasional awkward moments.

That's reassuring to hear, honestly. I've been skeptical about telematics because my commute involves a lot of stop-and-go traffic, and sometimes I have to make sudden stops when someone cuts me off (you know how city driving goes...). Do you think these apps are smart enough to recognize defensive driving situations versus genuinely aggressive moves? I'd hate to get penalized just for reacting safely to someone else's bad driving. Curious if you've noticed anything like that in your experience.

I've wondered about that too, actually. From what I've noticed using mine, they're getting better at distinguishing between sudden braking that's defensive versus aggressive driving habits. I had a similar situation—some genius swerved into my lane last minute and I slammed the brakes. Thought for sure I'd get dinged, but surprisingly, the app didn't penalize me. Seems like they're smart enough to factor in context and frequency...but I wouldn't trust them 100% just yet. Still beats paying full rates though, imo.

I've noticed the same thing. Had a close call a couple weeks ago when someone decided to cut across three lanes at the last second—had to brake pretty hard. I was sure the app would flag me for aggressive driving, but surprisingly it didn't. Seems like they're finally getting better at distinguishing between necessary defensive moves and actual reckless driving.

Still, I wouldn't fully rely on their judgment yet. From what I've read, these apps mostly look at patterns over time rather than isolated incidents. So if you're generally a cautious driver, one or two sudden braking events probably won't hurt your score much. But if it happens frequently—even if it's not your fault—it might start to count against you.

One thing that helped me was checking the app regularly to see what exactly it flagged as risky behavior. Sometimes you can dispute or clarify events directly through customer service if you think something was unfairly marked. Not always successful, but worth a shot if you're worried about your rates.

Overall though, I'm with you—it's still way better than paying full price for insurance, especially here in CA where rates can get ridiculous fast.

- Honestly, I'd be careful trusting the app too much—had a few close calls myself, and even though I drive cautiously, the app flagged me anyway. Disputes didn't really help either. Still cheaper than standard rates, but definitely not foolproof yet...
