Does Drivewise need background location to catch every trip?
Does Allstate Drivewise track trips through the phone app, a plug-in device, or can it depend on the setup? I’m wondering whether restricting background location or battery use could cause trips to be missed, and whether that would affect a Drivewise discount or just the app’s tracking record.
I’d like to understand what settings and participation rules apply before changing anything. Has Allstate clarified which phone permissions are needed for a particular setup, and whether missed trips have any policy consequence?

Allowing location access may not be enough if the phone suspends Drivewise while it’s in the background. Battery restrictions can affect that, but the relevant setting depends on the phone’s operating system and how the app is configured. So a missed trip doesn’t necessarily mean the location permission itself was wrong; background activity may be worth checking too.
