Mileage caps always seemed kinda weird to me too, especially if you live somewhere like Alaska where distances are huge. I mean, even a quick weekend drive can rack up more miles than you'd expect. I get why insurers do it, but still...feels like they're punishing you for actually enjoying your car.

The anti-theft device thing is interesting though. I never really considered it because, honestly, who'd wanna steal my old Subaru? 😂 But now you've got me wondering if even something simple like a steering wheel lock or alarm system could knock a few bucks off my premium. Did you go with something fancy or just a basic setup?

One thing I stumbled onto by accident was bundling my car insurance with renter's insurance. Didn't even know that was a thing until the agent mentioned it casually. Ended up saving me way more than I thought—enough to cover a couple tanks of gas each month, at least. Not exactly life-changing, but hey, every little bit helps when you're on a budget.

Also heard from a buddy that some insurers offer discounts if you take defensive driving courses. Sounds kinda boring, but if sitting through a couple hours of videos means cheaper insurance, might be worth it. Anyone tried that route?

Anyway, appreciate the heads-up on the anti-theft idea. Might have to look into it—even if it's just to keep the moose from joyriding in my Subaru. 😉

Mileage caps always bugged me too, especially since I love taking spontaneous road trips. Last summer, I drove from Anchorage down to Homer just for the weekend—beautiful drive, but man, those miles add up fast. About the defensive driving course thing...I actually did one online a couple years back. It was pretty dry, not gonna lie, but it shaved a decent chunk off my premium. Worth the boredom, IMO.

Totally relate to that Anchorage-Homer drive, it's gorgeous but yeah, those miles sneak up quick. Did the defensive driving thing myself—dry is an understatement, lol—but it genuinely makes you a safer driver. Plus, cheaper premiums are a nice bonus.

Haha, "dry" is spot-on. I remember sitting through mine thinking I'd rather watch paint dry... but honestly, it stuck with me. I found myself automatically checking mirrors more often and leaving extra distance, especially on those icy stretches between Anchorage and Palmer. Premium savings aside, the peace of mind you get knowing you're better prepared for Alaska's unpredictable roads is worth every tedious minute.

Couldn't agree more. Sure, the class drags on a bit, but isn't it funny how those little habits stick? Have you noticed fewer close calls since taking it?
