I get what you mean about the claims—insurance companies don’t really care whose fault it was, just that there’s a record. I’ve been super careful since I started driving, but even a small scrape can make your rates jump. It’s frustrating how little wiggle room there is, especially when weather and wildlife are just part of life out here. I’ve heard some folks have luck with smaller regional insurers, but honestly, I haven’t seen much difference either. Just feels like you’re paying for bad luck sometimes.

That’s exactly it. Doesn’t matter how careful you are—one deer on the road and your “good driver” status means nothing. I’ve tried both big names and local outfits, and honestly, the rates barely budged. Only real difference I noticed was customer service—smaller companies actually pick up the phone, but when it comes to premiums, they’re all pretty ruthless. At this point, I just keep my deductible high and cross my fingers every winter.

Yeah, it really does feel like you’re just rolling the dice out here. I hear you on the deer—last winter, I had one come out of nowhere and my “accident-free” streak didn’t help at all. The only thing that’s saved me some headache is actually calling around every year, even if the rates don’t move much. Customer service makes a difference when something actually goes wrong, though. At least with the smaller guys, you’re not stuck on hold forever. Just gotta hope for clear roads and no wildlife surprises...

Had a similar run-in last fall—brand new S-Class, and a buck just bolted out at dusk. My insurance (Chubb) wasn’t the cheapest, but they handled everything fast and didn’t nickel-and-dime me on OEM parts. Honestly, I’d pay extra for that peace of mind.

Had a guy once claim his truck got “kissed” by a moose—antlers through the windshield, no less. It’s wild out here. I’ve seen Chubb step up, but honestly, some of the smaller regional outfits can surprise you too. Not always about the big names.
