I always thought if you're not claiming anything, no need to bother them, right? But turns out, they might have rules buried in the fine print about reporting anyway. Seems weird to me...like why would they care if they're not paying out? Curious if anyone else knew this or has other random insurance trivia.

But it got me thinking...how quickly do most folks actually call their insurance after something like this? I mean, do you dial them up right there on the spot, or wait till you're home and calmed down a bit? Or maybe even wait a day or two to see if it's worth reporting at all? Quick poll below, curious what everyone else does.

- Immediately, right at the scene
- Same day, but later on
- Within a couple days
- Only if damage seems serious

Pulled over to help, but it got me thinking afterward about how easy it is to make things worse if you're not careful. First thing I did was park my car safely off the road, hazards on, then checked traffic before stepping out. Made sure to call emergency services right away too. But um, honestly, I felt kinda unsure if I was doing everything right. Anyone got better tips or steps they follow in situations like this?

Just read this crazy story earlier today about a guy whose house got damaged in a storm, and he's been going back and forth with his insurance adjuster for months now. Apparently, the adjuster keeps asking for more photos and documents, and every time he thinks he's done, they come back with another request. He even joked that he's spent more time documenting his damage than fixing it, lol. I mean, I've never had anything huge happen myself (knock on wood), but I did have a minor fender bender last year and the amount of paperwork and phone calls was already pretty annoying. Can't imagine what it's like when it's something major like your home.

Kinda made me wonder if this is typical or if he just got unlucky with his adjuster. Curious if anyone else has had similar experiences or maybe even some tips for making the whole process less painful?
