WHY DOES FILING A TOTAL LOSS CLAIM FEEL LIKE HOMEWORK?
WHY DOES FILING A TOTAL LOSS CLAIM FEEL LIKE HOMEWORK?
I hear you on the awkward angles - my last claim had me wedged between the seat and the center console, trying not to scratch the leather while snapping VIN photos. It’s wild how much documentation they want, but I get it. With the value of some cars, especially older or high-end models, I’d rather be thorough than risk a lowball settlement. Still, you’d think with all the tech in cars now, there’d be an easier way to verify this stuff... Maybe someday. For now, I just keep a microfiber cloth handy and hope for the best.
Honestly, I get why it feels like a homework assignment - there’s a mountain of info to gather. The reality is, insurance companies need all those details to make sure the payout’s fair and accurate, especially with so many scams out there. Still, I wish more of this could be automated... you’d think with keyless entry and all the tech packed in cars now, we’d just scan something and be done. For now, yeah, microfiber cloth and some patience are about as high-tech as it gets.
Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve had to file a claim for my ‘68 Mustang once, and man, the paperwork felt endless. I get that they’re trying to weed out fraud, but it’s wild how much they expect us to track down - especially when most modern cars are basically rolling computers. You’d think with all the tech, there’d be a way to auto-populate half this stuff. Guess we’re not quite there yet... until then, patience is key.

It really does seem counterintuitive, doesn’t it? With VIN scanners and digital records, you’d expect the process to be more streamlined by now. I remember when I had to chase down service receipts for my ‘72 Charger - half of them were handwritten. The irony is, even with all this tech, the human element still slows things down. Hang in there... patience really is the name of the game.
