Has anyone actually managed to get their insurer to count aftermarket stuff, like a sound system or custom wheels, without a fight? I’ve always wondered if there’s a trick to it, or if it’s just luck (or maybe the right adjuster on the right day). The last time I tried, I had receipts and photos, but they still said it was “not a covered upgrade” or something like that. Kind of makes you wonder what the point of keeping all that paperwork is, you know?

Also, does anyone know if certain insurers are more lenient about upgrades? Or is it just standard across the board to ignore anything that’s not factory? I’ve heard rumors that some policies let you list mods ahead of time, but I’ve never actually seen that work for anyone in real life. Maybe I’m missing something...
