Yeah, it’s a total gamble. I’ve had adjusters who could tell you the difference between AMG and M Sport just by looking at the exhaust tips, and others who think anything German is a “Beemer.” Drives me nuts. I always make it clear up front if it’s a high-end or classic—sometimes they’ll actually send someone who knows their stuff, but not always. The waiting game is the worst part... Had my S-Class sitting for over a month once because nobody could figure out the right part number. It’s wild how much depends on who picks up your file.

Honestly, that’s one of my biggest gripes with insurance—just how random it all feels depending on who you get. I had a claim once where the adjuster kept calling my Golf a “luxury coupe” and I was like… dude, it’s a hatchback, not a Bentley. Ended up taking way longer than it should’ve just because they ordered the wrong mirror twice. I get that not everyone’s a car nerd, but you’d think they’d at least check the VIN before guessing.

I’m curious—has anyone actually had luck getting an adjuster who really knows their stuff without having to jump through hoops? Or is it just hit or miss everywhere? I’ve started double-checking everything myself now, just to avoid the back-and-forth and extra downtime. Feels like you have to be your own advocate these days if you want things done right...

That’s a pretty common issue, honestly. There’s a lot of turnover in claims departments, and not every adjuster is going to be a car expert—or even try to be. I’ve seen people get lucky with someone who actually knows their stuff, but it’s rare. Double-checking details yourself is smart. The VIN should clear up any confusion, but sometimes folks just don’t bother to look it up. It really does come down to being your own advocate if you want things handled right the first time.

Yeah, being your own advocate is key. I’ve had adjusters tell me my car was “blue” when it’s clearly green—guess they were colorblind or just didn’t care.

Story of my life. Good on you for double-checking everything. And hey, that military discount is a win—gotta take the victories where you can, right?

Honestly, I’m still wrapping my head around how much you have to double-check every detail.

That part worries me... I guess being skeptical pays off. The military discount is a nice surprise, though—I didn’t even know that was an option until I asked.
