Does the overnight parking address affect a Minnesota auto quote?

If the commute and driving habits stay the same, how much can a Minneapolis–St. Paul garaging address change an auto quote compared with a nearby suburb?

I’m also unsure how insurers distinguish the address where a car is usually parked overnight from the address on its registration. If someone moves but keeps parking the car elsewhere temporarily, what’s the right way to report that change? I wouldn’t want to choose an address just because it gives a lower rate.

For a useful comparison, should the quote details be identical apart from the garaging address, and is there anything specific to disclose when asking an insurer to rerate after a move?

If you move but the car will be kept overnight somewhere else for a while, tell the insurer both addresses and how long you expect that setup to last. Ask which address they’ll use for garaging; don’t use the registration address as a rate-shopping shortcut. Keep the other quote details the same so you can see what the address itself changes.
