But speaking of cautious moves, have you checked if stacking veteran discounts with safe-driver programs actually works smoothly? I've heard mixed things about combining multiple discounts...some insurers seem fine with it, others not so much. Might be worth double-checking before relying too heavily on that combo.

Here's my foolproof method for avoiding insurance heartbreak: Step 1, call your insurer pretending you're just "curious." Step 2, casually mention veteran discounts. Step 3, slide in the safe-driver thing like it's an afterthought. Step 4, brace yourself for disappointment or victory dance accordingly. Tried that route before, didn't really pan out for me. Agent just politely shot down my casual discount hints, haha. Honestly, I've found better luck switching insurers every couple years. Seems like loyalty doesn't pay as much as being the "new customer" does... But hey, glad it worked for someone at least. Maybe I'll give your method another shot next renewal.

Totally agree—sticking around with one insurer rarely pays off these days. Companies often save their best rates for attracting new business, not keeping loyal customers happy (weird logic, I know). Veteran discounts can be hit or miss depending on the company and even the agent you talk to. Sometimes being direct rather than casual helps—you could ask straight-up what discounts you're eligible for. Worth a shot next renewal, anyway...but yeah, shopping around every couple years is usually the safest bet.
