Deciding between just liability or going all-in with full coverage on Liberty Mutual
I hear you on the peace of mind thing. I drive a BMW, and even though it’s not brand new, repairs are stupid expensive - one fender bender and my wallet cries for weeks. Full coverage feels like a ripoff until you actually need it. Still, I do shop around every renewal because those premiums creep up fast. If my car was worth less, I’d probably risk liability only, but with the way parts cost these days... yeah, not rolling those dice.
Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. I just bought my first car and was shocked at how much full coverage adds to the bill, but thinking about how much even a minor accident could set me back... yeah, I couldn’t risk it. Especially with a BMW - those parts aren’t cheap. I figure paying a bit more now is better than stressing over a huge repair later. It’s not fun, but it helps me sleep at night.
I totally get your point about the peace of mind. With a BMW, repairs can be brutal - my cousin had a fender bender and the bill was wild, even for something minor. I know liability is tempting if you’re trying to save, but one accident and it could wipe out those savings fast. I’d rather pay a bit more upfront than gamble with those odds. It’s not the fun part of owning a car, but it’s definitely the responsible move.

Yeah, that’s the part that gets me too. I drive a lot for work, so the odds of something happening just go up. Even a small scrape on a BMW can cost more than a year’s worth of full coverage. I get why people want to save, but with these repair costs, it feels like rolling the dice. Still, sometimes I wonder if the extra coverage is padded with stuff I’ll never use... insurance always feels like a bit of a gamble either way.
- Totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve had a tiny fender bender in a parking lot and the repair bill was ridiculous - like, “how is that even possible?” levels.
- Full coverage does feel padded sometimes, but the peace of mind is hard to put a price on, especially with higher-end cars.
- I do wish there was a way to pick and choose more. Some of those add-ons just seem pointless for my situation, but dropping them barely changes the premium.
- At the end of the day, I’d rather grumble about paying too much than stress over a $4k scratch.
