Monthly autopay still has fees on some policies
Does an autopay discount usually reduce the premium itself, or does it just waive a billing fee? I’m also curious whether insurers let you change payment frequency separately from payment method, so you can pay monthly by autopay without being charged the same installment fees as manual monthly payments.
For a fair comparison, I’d keep the coverage and policy term the same and compare the total cost of monthly autopay, monthly manual payments, and paying in full. What’s the clearest way to separate an actual autopay discount from fees that disappear because of how the policy is billed?

The cleanest comparison is the total due over the same policy term, with the base premium and billing charges shown separately. If monthly autopay changes the base premium, that’s an autopay discount. If the base premium stays the same but installment fees change, the difference is in billing charges. Paying in full is a separate case: it may avoid installment fees even if there’s no autopay discount.
