Why can’t I use my points AND a coupon at checkout?

It’s the same with gas stations on long trips - try stacking rewards and a coupon, and suddenly their system “can’t do that.” I get it, they want to limit discounts, but it feels like a bait-and-switch. Makes me double-check every promo now.

Drives me nuts too. I’ve run into this with grocery store apps - try to use a digital coupon and points, and suddenly the register freezes up or the cashier says “one or the other.” I get that they’re trying to avoid stacking losses, but it’s not always clear in the fine print. Have you ever had luck calling customer service after the fact? Sometimes they’ll credit you, but it’s hit or miss.

Yeah, that’s happened to me at a few different chains. It’s annoying when you think you’re stacking deals, only to get blocked at checkout. I’ve had mixed results with customer service too - sometimes they’ll toss a few points back, sometimes nothing. The fine print is usually buried or worded vaguely on purpose, I think. It really shouldn’t be this complicated to save a couple bucks.

Honestly, I get the frustration, but I don’t think it’s always about “buried fine print.”

Sometimes it’s just the system can’t handle multiple discounts at once. Not saying it’s right, but I doubt every store is out to trick us. I’ve seen some chains actually spell out the rules pretty clearly - just wish more would do that.

I get what you’re saying, but is it really just a “system limitation” though? I mean, these companies have the tech to track every little thing we buy, but can’t figure out how to stack a coupon and points? Feels more like a business choice than a tech issue. I’ve seen luxury brands let you combine offers if you’re in their top tier, so it’s definitely possible. Maybe they just don’t want to give up too much margin to the average shopper.
