Why can’t I use my points AND a coupon at checkout?
Honestly, I get where you’re coming from, but I’m not sure it’s just about keeping things simple for the business. Sometimes it feels like they’re banking on us missing out on the best deal because we don’t have time to read all the rules. I mean, when I’m planning a long road trip and trying to save every penny - gas, snacks, oil changes, you name it - I want to stack every discount I can. If they really wanted to make it easy, they’d just let us use points and coupons together, or at least have a big sign at checkout spelling it out.
I’ve had times where I thought I was getting a killer deal, only to find out at the register that “only one promotion applies.” It’s not the end of the world, but it does make me double-check everything now. Maybe I’m just more cautious after getting burned a couple times, but I’d rather spend an extra minute reading the fine print than lose out on savings. Still, it shouldn’t be this complicated. If they want loyal customers, making things clearer would go a long way.
- Totally get it - been there, felt that sting at the register.
- Sometimes I wonder if they make the rules confusing on purpose, just to trip us up.
- I’ve had cashiers who didn’t even know the policy, which makes it worse.
- Honestly, if stacking discounts is such a big deal for them, at least make it super obvious up front.
- I still try every combo just in case... sometimes you get lucky, but usually it’s a nope.
- Not sure if it’s about “simplicity” or just squeezing out more profit.
I’ve run into this at a few dealerships and high-end retailers - sometimes you think you’re about to score a deal, only to find out at checkout that “points can’t be combined with promotional offers.” It’s frustrating, especially when the terms are buried in fine print or the staff isn’t sure themselves. I get that businesses want to protect their margins, but it does feel a bit like they’re banking on confusion. I’d appreciate more transparency, honestly. Still, every now and then, you hit the jackpot and everything lines up... just wish it happened more often.
Yeah, I’ve been burned by this too. Last time I tried to use my loyalty points and a promo on some new tires, the cashier looked at me like I was trying to rob the place. Turns out, “one or the other” is the golden rule. I get it, but man, it feels like they’re playing coupon bingo and we’re always one square short. Would be nice if the rules were clearer up front... or at least printed bigger than a postage stamp.
Honestly, this bugs me too. I’ve learned to always check the fine print before heading to the register - sometimes it’s buried in the T&Cs or on the back of the coupon. Here’s what I do: snap a photo of the promo details, then ask at customer service before shopping. Saves me from that awkward “can’t stack” moment at checkout. Not perfect, but it’s helped dodge a few headaches.
